Matthew Henry:
“Marriage is a divine institution designed by God for the mutual companionship, support, and happiness of husband and wife. It is a sacred covenant entered into before God, in which a man and a woman vow to love, honor, and cherish one another for the rest of their lives. In marriage, husband and wife are called to live together in harmony and unity, bearing with one another’s weaknesses and faults, and seeking each other’s spiritual and emotional well-being above their own desires. They are to be faithful and loyal to one another, forsaking all others, and cleaving only to each other until death parts them. Marriage is a picture of Christ’s relationship with His church, demonstrating the love, grace, and forgiveness that should characterize the union between husband and wife.” (From “Matthew Henry’s Commentary on the Whole Bible”)
